Cisco Systems Makes Jab For New Market

Hey Microsoft you all better look out there appears to be a new competitor for the business of the corporate world. Cisco Systems has made a play over the last few years to expand beyond their data pushing gear technology. They just announced a deal that would complete a nice little package of office communication software that may be able to rival some of the perennials like Microsoft and IBM.

MS Continues To Gobble Up Smaller Companies - Despite This Funny Clip

The big software giant on the block continues to gobble up smaller companies and new technologies to further their reach into everyday applications. Microsoft hot off the heels of their pursuit of Yahoo which is probably not over acquired another tech company in their pursuit to try and expand the user base for their flailing Vista operating system. Microsoft Making Moves in the Desktop Virtualization Space

Microsoft announced today some pretty aggressive moves in the desktop virtualization space. First, they announced their acquisition of Calista Technologies, which optimizes the remote display protocol used in hosted and other VDI-like solutions. Technology like Calista’s, along with their alliance with Citrix, are important to VDI-like solutions to give end-users an acceptable user experience, especially with interactive or multimedia-rich applications.
Microsoft also loosened Vista virtualization licensing to allow Vista Home Basic and Home Premium to be run on a virtual machine. This is good news for all involved, as users no longer have to spend the extra money on the more expensive Vista Business or Ultimate editions just to run them in a virtual machine. They also announced official support for Microsoft Office running as a virtualized application. Continue Reading »
