Cisco Systems Makes Jab For New Market

Hey Microsoft you all better look out there appears to be a new competitor for the business of the corporate world. Cisco Systems has made a play over the last few years to expand beyond their data pushing gear technology. They just announced a deal that would complete a nice little package of office communication software that may be able to rival some of the perennials like Microsoft and IBM.

Let’s look at what they have manage to do over the last few years, starting with their latest announcement that they have inked a deal to take over Jabber Inc. Jabber makes an instant messaging service that provides more security and archiving to appeal more to the corporate world which is known for their regulations with regards to corporate security and privacy.

Jabber is looking like a very nice piece of software that will only compliment Cisco’s prior office software purchases of WebEx an online collaboration and meeting tool then you have the other edition software for emailing and calendar collaboration which was PostPath. Let us not forget that Cisco also provides VOIP telephones as well.

The combination of all these online business communication and collaborative tools puts the Cisco Systems company in direct competition with companies like Microsoft and IBM.  I will say this at a time when so many companies are cutting back and looking for ways to stay a float it’s impressive to see a company to boldly break out and expand their business in such a shaky economy.
