Internet TV is coming and it’s coming in a big way as the giant boulder that is Internet TV is starting to roll down the mountain and the momentum that it is picking up is starting to reach a point where it will be everywhere before you know it.
Remember it was just a few years ago where no one even heard of a phone with a touch screen and apps? What the heck were apps five years ago? Now you simply can not get away from them as they come installed on just about every phone that hits the market now a days. Now they are being pushed onto our televisions and this is the way that Internet will finally make the leap from the computer to the television.
Make no mistake Internet TV is coming whether you want it or not as more and more companies jump on the band wagon to get the latest technology out there for the world to see. Let’s count off the devices that are out there right now delivering Internet services of some kind to your TV at home shall we? Google TV with Sony, Roku, Apple TV, Samsung televisions and Boxee Box coming soon to name a few. I would also suspect that the first reference I made for Google TV and Sony will see that feature work it’s way onto their gaming console the PS3 some time in the near future as well.
Take into account that these are just a few of the tech companies that happen to be at the forefront of this new movement. You know that the rest of those big name tech companies are working hard to jump on this band wagon as it’s a whole new untapped and probably the last place for the Internet to go in terms of reaching into our lives. Heck they already put TV shows on the Internet why not bring the Internet to the TV right?
I am going to say that within the next three years you will see a giant leap forward in terms of society adopting the new Internet TV format and that a good portion of the population will become connected to the web via their televisions in the next three years. That is my bold or not so bold depending on your perspective for the future of TV as we know it.
Also what is driving this drastic change is the creation of the apps that are able to deliver the content from the Internet in user friendly ways that five years ago we just did not have. I mean honestly we could have seen Internet TV 10 years ago probably the problem of course was that the only way you could see anything on the Internet was with a web browser and mouse for point and click action. That does not really translate over to the TV all that well but if you can put the Internet on my TV where it is press of a button on my remote friendly then you will have a winner, that’s where the apps come in.
The apps are where the success of the marriage of Internet and TV will lie and honestly if the app developers can tweak their apps to be more TV friendly then you will have a gold mine of opportunity for those smart enough to utilize it.
