Apple Encourages Anti-Virus – Really Not Joking

I was reading this interesting little article regarding a recent update to a long standing message from the crew over at Apple. The article made mention of the fact that Apple has made a recommendation that people the use Mac computers are encouraged to use multiple anti-virus software programs to make it even more difficult for virus programmers to try and get into their Mac computers. Why is this a big deal you might be wondering? Well for people who really read the quote from Apple and were paying attention to the wording this was really not a big deal but for those people on the internet that have a habit of seeing the words that we only want to see this may have seemed like a huge deal coming from Apple.

You see in case you are not aware of the Mac world, there has been no need for any anti-virus software for a Mac as computer viruses don’t work in the Mac world. I believe Mac computers are on a 19 year run at this point with no viruses, now that is impressive!

MacBookSo people who read that quote quickly might be thinking what’s going on here why would I need anti-virus on my Mac all of a sudden. The keyword in the quote from Apple is that they “encourage” the anti-virus software. Note to self encourage is different than required  So in actuality nothing has changed in the structure or the thinking at Apple other than the fact that they are being pro active is keeping their systems clean and protected from virus software. The speculation on why this encouraged statement has even come about is that the Mac series may be on the rise in terms of computer market share.

We all know that the bigger and more successful your company becomes the bigger the target becomes on your companies back for all these computer hackers to achieve a hack that no one has ever done before. So no real need to worry all you Mac users out there, our machines are still in good shape but it certainly is never a bad idea to take every precaution you can to protect your systems. Because even the best of the best have an off day eventually. Do you think anyone will ever get a virus into a Mac? How much longer can Apple keep the streak of no viruses?

Share Your Opinions and Thanks for Reading,

Carpe Diem!
