Paul Allen Comes Back To Software Business

I saw a little blurb in the news today about one of the biggest names to have an impact on software industry in the last 30 years is quietly re entering the software market with a a brand new company. Paul Allen who for those of you that don’t know is the co-founder of Microsoft back in the day. No Bill Gates was not the only guy responsible for that company Paul Allen was a major reason why they became as big as they have.

Needless to say Paul Allen started distancing himself from Microsoft back in the 80’s and for the most part stayed in the background. He eventually left the company obviously much richer than when he started the company. Paul Allen is still considered one of the richest men in the world with an estimated fortune in the multi billions of dollars. Anyway for the past couple of decades he really has not messed with the software industry keeping busy with his philanthropy in the northwest part of the country. He owns a couple of sports teams that you may have heard of the Portland Trailblazers and Seattle Seahawks plus the numerous other companies he has funded over the years. If you don’t know much about Paul Allen you should do a quick search at the wiki to find out all that he has done. It really is quite impressive when you see it all layed out like that.

Anyway back to the point of my little post here the new software company that Paul Allen is backing is called Xiant. They have come to the market with their first software program being in it beta stage and is being offered for free right now. The program is an email filter sorting program that is written to run within Outlook. Apparently it is a program that will eventually learn your filing system for your incoming emails and will be able to do that email sorting for you auto-magically ;-) This is just the start for Xiant as they apparently have intentions of moving a version of their software to the Blackberry market eventually as well.

I will go out on a ledge here and say the Xiant software will be a successful company in the next few years. Just kidding of course this company will be a success when you have someone of that stature in the software business community backing the whole venture.
