Hello internet, I recently saw a commercial for a show coming up on CNBC that will be taking a closer look at the mobile software explosion of apps for your phones. This made me think about how big these tiny little programs have become in what amounts to less than three years on the open market.
It wasn’t until the release of the first iPhone back in 2007 that anyone had even really heard of the term app which is short for application by the way, just thought I would mention that in case you have been living in a hole somewhere and have never heard that phrase before
Anyway for me personally it was not until earlier this year when we upped our cell phone contract for another two years that we decided to move up to the Blackberry curve phones and we finally had our first exposure to all this app hoopla.
From what I have seen there is a good portion of apps on the market right now that are quite honestly a bunch of crap ware as far as I am concerned. Just a bunch of app developers trying to get a piece of that money pie in the sky, what a surprise I know! I do get some use out of a couple of apps that have actually come in pretty handy in terms of getting some work done, staying in communication with others and getting the latest sports scores.
I have become much more aware of all the people that seem to have iPhones, Blackberrys, Andorids and other PDA’s. We are the people that are usually walking down the hallways with our faces buried in our phones not watching where we are walking. Or sitting in the waiting room or anywhere else waiting for our appointments or transportation to arrive. The apps are a great time filler for those little moments that we used to just stand around twiddling our thumbs or staring out in to the sky just dreaming of other things we could be doing and now we don’t even have time to do that anymore because now we all have these little apps to play with.
I enjoy my phone and the access it gives me to get more things done and talk to more people. The problem with this technology and other gadget things like the app stores is that the “intent” for these things is to make your life easier, right? Only problem with that scenario is that the more gadgets and technology that I add to my life to make things easier the less time I seem to have in the day to do all these things. Like I said the apps are great little time fillers or shall we say time takers. I don’t know about you internet but I have noticed the amount of time I spend on my phone has increased exponentially with every app that I add to my phone.
It’s an addictive behavior that makes it harder and hared to unplug from the world when you need that time away for your own me time. Am I way off base here internet or do you agree? Has the integration of apps into your phone and your life made things easier for you or has it managed to suck the time out of your days and nights? Leaving you little opportunity to unplug from the world.
